Music is my life

Oo Kar Yan achieved remarkable musical progress within a short span of time, attaining her ABRSM Grade 8 Piano in under two years of study and earning a Silver Award at the EuroAsia Piano Competition 2023 after only seven months of piano training under the guidance of Ms. Nicole SL Yap, Academy Director of Ideal Music. Among her notable achievements are winning the Gold Award at the YEFF 2024 Piano Competition in Penang and securing the Bronze Award for piano at the ASWARA Young Talent Competition 2024.


In addition to her piano accomplishments, Kar Yan has excelled in vocal performance, earning Gold and Silver Awards in solo vocal competitions, including the 2018 APAF in Kuala Lumpur and the VIB Classical Series Competition 2024 in the 19–25 category. She was also invited to join the YCA Chorus for Korea’s 1st International Choral Event in October 2024 and contributed to the Gold Award achieved by the MIA Ladies Chorus at the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (MCE) International Choir Festival in both 2023 and 2025.


Her performance experience includes appearances at Ideal Music’s in-house concerts, where she received the Best Performance Award in 2022. She has also performed at various prestigious events such as Uncover Talent 2019, Unleash Talent Shine On Stage 2023, and the 74th Anniversary Celebration of the 马来西亚南安刘氏公会, where she performed alongside Ms. Nicole SL Yap and Mr. Stanley SF Chin. Kar Yan further showcased her artistry at the MIA Departmental Concerts from 2023 to 2025, among other engagements.


Beyond performance, Kar Yan completed her Diploma studies in Music at the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) and served as Vice President of both the Music Society and the MIA Chorus, demonstrating leadership and dedication to her artistic community.
