Nicole S.L. Yap is a distinguished music educator, pianist, and arts entrepreneur, and the Co-Founder and Academy Director of Ideal Music, a leading music institution in Malaysia established in 2003. With over two decades of professional experience, she is widely recognized for her pedagogical excellence, artistic leadership, and consistent record of student achievement at both national and international levels.

She graduated with a First-Class Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Performing from Akademi Seni Kebudayaan dan Warisan Kebangsaan. During her studies, she was consistently on the Dean’s List for all six semesters, awarded Best Student of the Faculty of Music for three consecutive years (2011–2013), and received the Rector’s Award. Nicole holds advanced professional piano qualifications, including LRSM and Advanced Certificate from Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, ATCL from Trinity College London, and LMusA from Australian Music Examinations Board, reflecting a comprehensive and internationally benchmarked training in piano performance.

Her excellence in music education has been recognized internationally through the Excellent Teacher Award at the Taiwan International Classical and Traditional Music Awards (2018, 2019, 2024), as well as Teaching Achievement Awards from the Graceful Piano International Piano Competition in 2025. Under her guidance, students have consistently achieved outstanding examination results since 2003, with many attaining distinctions, and have won numerous prizes in national and international piano competitions since 2012.

Nicole is actively engaged in the international music scene as an adjudicator and arts collaborator. She has served as co-organizer and judge for the Asia Pacific Arts Festival (APAF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2018); Siem Reap, Cambodia (2018); Singapore (2019); Malacca, Malaysia (2020); and Jeonju, South Korea (2024). She also served as co-organizer and judge for the Youth Educational Friendship Festival (YEFF) in Penang, Malaysia (2024) and Da Nang, Vietnam (2024). In 2017, she was appointed as the production company for the Legacy Project: A Cultural Exchange Between Japan and Malaysia, organized by the Min-On Concert Association.

In 2025, she was appointed Music Director for a special initiative by MED-EL, where she trained children who regained hearing through cochlear implant surgery, demonstrating her commitment to inclusive music education and the transformative power of music.

As a performer, Nicole actively collaborates in chamber music settings and served as a jury collaborative pianist for Voices and Bloom with the Young Choral Academy in 2024, further reflecting her versatility as both an educator and performing artist.
